In the match played on Saturday, the Dasun Shanaka-led team was two overs short at the allotted time. Due to this reason, ICC match official Javagal Srinath has imposed this penalty on him.
According to Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Support Staff, players are fined five percent of their match fee if any team slows down an over within the stipulated time for slow over rate. Shanaka pleaded guilty, so there was no need for further hearing in the case.
South Africa beat Sri Lanka by 102 runs at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi last Saturday. With this victory, he made a great start in the World Cup.
