New Delhi, August 27: Thomas Dennerby, coach of the India women’s national team, has announced the 22-player squad for the football competition for the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, which will be held from September 21 to October 6.

India’s women’s team, ranked 61st in the FIFA rankings, has been drawn along with Chinese Taipei (ranked 38th) and Thailand (ranked 46th) into Group B.

There are 17 teams divided into five groups. Groups A, B and C each have three teams, while Groups D and E have four teams each. The five group winners and the three best second-placed teams advance to the quarter-finals.

The women’s football championship at the Asian Games is contested between full national teams, with no age restrictions. The Indian women’s national team has competed in the Asian Games twice previously – Bangkok 1998 and Incheon 2014.
