Cairo, August 28: The Egyptian Foreign Ministry said that Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry and his Italian counterpart Antonio Tajani discussed bilateral and regional issues.

The ministry said in a statement today, Sunday, that Tajani listened, during a phone call, to Shukri’s assessment of the developments in Niger and ways to solve the crisis through diplomatic means in a way that preserves the security and stability of Niger and the region.

The situation in Libya was also discussed, as Shoukry briefed his Italian counterpart on Egypt’s vision regarding developments in the political and security situation, according to Xinhua.

The Egyptian Foreign Minister also reviewed ways to support solutions that guarantee the holding of parliamentary and presidential elections in Libya at the earliest opportunity.

In addition, the two senior diplomats addressed common conditions and challenges in the Mediterranean region, including illegal immigration.

They also discussed ways to enhance bilateral relations in the economic and investment fields, and agreed to hold talks on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly meetings in New York next September.
