World and Olympic champion javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra has been included in the race for the title of world’s best athlete in 2023. He has been selected as a candidate for this prestigious award along with 11 athletes. The World Athlete of the Year will be announced by World Athletics on 11 December.

The international panel of World Athletics has selected 11 candidates for this award on the basis of their performance in 2023. Apart from Neeraj, the candidates include American shot putter Ryan Krueger, Sweden’s pole vaulter Mondo Duplantis, Morocco’s Sufiyan Al Bakkali (3000 m steeplechase), Norway’s Jacob Ingebrigtsen (1500, 5000 m), Kenya’s Kelvin Kiptum (marathon), Canada’s Pierce Lepage (decathlon), American sprinter Noah Lyles, Spain’s race walker Alvaro Martin, Greece’s long jumper Miltiadis Tantoglou, Norway’s Karsten Warholm (400m hurdles).

The winner will be announced after three rounds of voting. The winner will be decided by a vote of the World Athletics Council and the World Athletics family, as well as the fans. Fans will be able to cast their votes via World Athletics’ social media platforms. Neeraj has won gold at the World Championship and Asian Games in Budapest this year.
