LGB Formula 4 is dominated by Tejil Rao and Arya Singh; Double for Arjun Nair in the Rookie Cup
Coimbatore, 26th August: Dark Don Racing’s Tegel Rao and Arya Singh won a race in the LGB Formula 4 class in the season opener of the 26th National Racing Championship, which got off to a great start at Kari Motor Speedway here on Saturday.
Tegel started the day on top of the podium in the opening race. It wasn’t easy for the Bengaluru youngster as teammates Arya Singh (Kolkata) and TS Diljith (Thrissur) offered him a run for his money.
The lead kept changing hands lap after lap. But Tegel, despite the pressure, held his nerve and pulled ahead on the final lap to take the square flag in style.
It didn’t matter for the Dark Don Racing Team as Arya and Diljith grabbed the next two spots.
In the second race, Arya got revenge on Tegel with a thrilling win. It was a back-and-forth race between the two, and with three laps to go it looked like anyone’s game, and with it another clean sweep for Dark Don Racing.
The deployment of the Safety Car made it more exciting for the spectators but not the top three contenders as the back markers gained a slight advantage.
At this point, all eyes were on Arya and Tejel, but the former did a better job than the latter when it was most important to end the day on a cheerful note. The organizers reported in a statement on Saturday that Ahura Racing’s Tegel and Viswas Vijayaraj had to rest with second and third places respectively.
Arjun Nair of Bengaluru, representing Momentum Motorsports, also started the season brightly, getting a great double in the JK Tire Novice Cup. He set the fastest time in both races and showed all his racing speed to beat the best.
R. Anand of Chennai scored on a strong field to take the first podium finish in the Royal Enfield Continental GT Cup.
In an accident riddled race, which had to be restarted due to two accidents, Mr. Samrul Zubair of Hyderabad gave Anand a chance to win his money but in the end, Anand crossed the line quite easily.
