An army contingent was hit by an avalanche on Monday (October 9) near Mount Kun in Ladakh. One soldier died while three others are missing.
According to officials, a contingent of around 40 military personnel from the High Altitude Warfare School (HAWS) and the Army’s Army Adventure Wing were undergoing training near Mount Kun in Ladakh. During this time an avalanche occurred.
Rescue operation was started immediately after the accident, which is still going on. The team has recovered the body of a soldier. The search for 3 missing soldiers continues.

7 tourists visiting Sikkim in April died in avalanche
An avalanche occurred in Gangtok, the capital of Sikkim, on 4 April 2023. 7 tourists died in this. The dead included four men, two women and a child. The incident occurred at 11.30 am on the Jawaharlal Nehru Road connecting Gangtok to Nathu La Pass.
The Army had issued a statement saying that five-six vehicles were stuck under the snow, in which there were about 30 people. By 4 pm, seven bodies had been pulled from the snow and 23 people, including six tourists, had been rescued. Of these, 11 have been admitted to Gangtok hospital as their condition is critical. PM Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah expressed grief over the death of tourists in avalanche in Sikkim.
