New Delhi, August 25: Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Bangar has spoken about the pivotal role played by Kuala Lumpur’s Rahul in India’s preparations for the upcoming AFC Asian Cup 2023.

With an astute assessment of the team’s dynamics, Banjar delves into the critical consideration of Kuala Lumpur’s Rahul’s participation as wicket-keeper and batsman and how this strategic decision aligns with India’s quest for balance and performance.

“I think the goalkeeper bats because no one plays in the top five in the India team so that means if you want 6 bowling options you have to have a player in your top five who can bowl or you have to be a batsman for the wicket-keeper. So, I feel if KL Rahul plays the role of wicket-keeper batsman, then I think only then he should be considered in the starting line-up because in this way the balance of the team will be kept,” Banjar told Star Sports.

He also said, “If Kl Rahul is not fit as a batsman, then Ishaan Kishan has done nothing wrong as he is a better wicket-keeper and also a regular wicket-keeper. So, in the 50-plus match wherever India is going to you obviously want a decent wicket-keeper and a wicket-keeper. First wicket to play in the starting line-up rather than consider a half-fit bowler or feel he could get injured again.
