Azhar Iqubal, resident of Kishanganj district of Bihar, has been made the new judge in Shark Tank India 3. The TV show announced this on Friday through its various official social media handles.
Azhar Iqbal is the CEO of a company called Inshorts. InShorts is a news aggregator app, which summarizes every news in 60 words.
What is Shark Tank India?
Shark Tank India is a business reality TV series broadcast on Sony Entertainment Television. It serves as the Indian adaptation of the American program ‘Shark Tank’. In this show, entrepreneurs present their business ideas to investors. These investors are called ‘sharks’. After some questions and answers, these sharks discuss whether to invest in that company.
The first season of Shark Tank India aired from 20 December 2021 to 4 February 2022. Its second season ran from 2 January 2023 to 10 March 2023. Now season 3 is about to come.
Entrepreneurs like Ashneer Grover, Piyush Bansal, Aman Gupta, Anupam Mittal, Namita Thapar, Ghazal Alagh, Vinita Singh and Amit Jain have been judges of the show. The show has also announced the names of OYO CEO Ritesh Agarwal and Zomato CEO Deependra Goyal for the upcoming season.
Azhar’s Kishanganj connection?
Azhar Iqbal is a resident of Bahadurganj block under Kishanganj district of Bihar. He has studied till class 10th from Oriental Public School in Kishanganj city. After further studies from a private school in Delhi, he achieved All India Rank (AIR) around 600 in IIT JEE and took admission in IIT Delhi. It was there that Iqbal started a Facebook page called News In Shorts.
In 2013, along with his partners Deepit Purkayastha and Anunay Arunabh, he launched the InShorts app. For this, Iqbal completed Integrated M.Tech from IIT Delhi in just three years. Left his studies in Mathematics and Computing incomplete. 2019 they have launched Public app.
How big a company is Inshorts?
InShorts today has funding of US$165 million (about Rs 1,374 crore). The valuation of the company is $550 million US dollars (about Rs 4,580 crore). More than 500 people work here. InShorts’ office is in Noida.
However, according to news website inc42.com, the consolidated net loss of Inshorts increased by 1.7 times to US $ 31.8 million (about Rs 264.8 crore) in the financial year 2021-22, which was 18.5 million in the financial year 2020-21.
