Hubli Tigers beat Mangaluru, to top the points table
Bengaluru, August 26: Hubli Tigers beat Mangaluru Dragons by 5 wickets to secure first place in the points table at the Maharaja Trophy KSCA T20 here on Saturday.
Manvanth Kumar (5-33) put in a fine bowling display to pick up five wickets before Mohamed Taha (51 from 23 balls) and skipper Manish Pandey (56* from 33 balls) led Hubli to a comfortable victory over Mangaluru with a win. They took 5 wickets with 10 balls to spare.
Positioned at bat, wicket-keeper and batsman BR Sharath of the Mangaluru Dragons got his team off to a fast start scoring 40 runs off 23 balls before he was bowled by Manvanth Kumar in the fifth over.
Rohan Patel (34) and KV Siddharth (53) added 60 runs in a solid second-wicket partnership before Praveen Dubey edged Patel into the 12th over, eventually scoring 105-2.
Another fruitful partnership of 48 runs for the third wicket was formed between KV Siddharth and Thippa Reddy (19) as Mangaluru went on to crack the 150 mark in 16.5 overs, setting the team up for a high score by the end of the innings.
However, an 18th-minute fall off Reddy and Siddharth off Manvanth Kumar’s over bowled led to a collapse as they managed just 16 of their last three overs for the loss of seven wickets thanks to an innovative combination of pace by Manvanth Kumar and Lavish Kaushal.
Mangaluru ended their innings on 167/9 with Hubli Tigers’ Manvanth Kumar (5-33) emerging as the main destroyer, catching his first shot of the tournament to break the momentum generated by Mangaluru’s top order.
In response, the Hubli Tigers scored 46 in their first four as Md. Taha (51) attacked all-out bowlers Mangaluru Dragons.
Although Naga Bharath (14) and KL Shrijith (4) each fell in the fifth inning, the flow of runs was not hampered as Md. Taha scoring a half-century in 21 balls before ending up as Anand Dudamani’s third victim of the evening in the ninth innings at the end of which the score was 88/3.
Praveen Dube (17) then joined skipper Manish Pandey (56 not out) at the crease and rounded the putt well before being dismissed by Paras Arya in the 13th minute.
K. Gowtham dismissed Manvanth Kumar in the next over as the Hubli Tigers were 127-5 with Manish Pandey bowling well on 33 off 22 balls.
With only 41 runs required from their last six overs, and Manish Pandey bringing home a half century in 32 balls, the Hubli Tigers beat the Mangaluru Dragons by five wickets with 10 balls to spare as Baa Mohith (20*) and Pandey saw them through to the finish line.
