Doordarshan Old Serial Foundation: These days there is a glut of serials on TV channels. Why only on the channel, in this era of OTT, there are abundance of episodes of web series also. But no one can replace the serials coming on Doordarshan. The era of serials that came on Doordarshan in the initial phase is hardly seen with any other serial. A story related to common people. Episodes decorated with every emotional color of life and characters that were like us used to be the life of these serials. One such serial was Buniyaad. The pain after partition was shared in this serial which aired on Doordarshan in 1986.

The plot of Buniyaad was set between 1916 and 1978, and told the story of a family who lived in Bichhowali Gali, Lahore. After partition the family came to India, where they got a house in Lajpat Nagar as the base of their property in Pakistan. After that, how does this family spend their days in a new country and new place, adjust themselves and live together. This is the story of the serial. The serial Buniyaad based on this plot was such a hit among the people that it would not be wrong to call it Sholay of the small screen.

The story of the serial was based on the life of Haveliram’s family. Alok Nath had made the character of Master Haveliram memorable. Anita Kanwar played the role of 70 year old woman Lajwanti at a very young age. Kanwaljit Singh played Satbir in Buniyaad, Dalip Tahil was seen in the role of Kulbhushan. In this serial of Ramesh Sippy, his second wife Kiran Juneja played the role of Veeranwali. Vijayendra Ghatge got the role of Lala Vrishabhan. Alia Bhatt’s mother Soni Razdan was also seen in this serial. During an interview, she herself had told that while playing the role of Sulochana, she was pregnant and had shot the entire serial in that condition.
