London:
Regular running relieves depression. It is as effective as antidepressant drugs. This has come to light in a research conducted at Vrij University in Amsterdam.
Scientists conducted this study on 141 patients suffering from depression. 45 of them took anti-depressants and 96 decided to run for 16 weeks. In the end, 44 percent of both groups experienced relief from depression, but the patients who ran had reduced obesity, improved heart rate and stayed fit.
“We found that patients who made running part of their daily routine had just as much less depression after 16 weeks as patients taking medication,” said Professor Brenda Penninx.
