Pune : Punekar athletes played a significant role in India’s historic success in the Asian Games this time. Six Punekars won five medals in sports like cricket, kabaddi, tennis, skating and chess. This includes four gold and one bronze medal.
The tournament was held in Hangzhou, China. India crossed the 100 medal mark for the first time in its history. In this, the performance of Pune people became proud. The gold medal winning women’s kabaddi team included Snehal Shinde. Both the men’s and women’s teams achieved golden success in cricket. It was contributed by Rituraj Gaikwad and Devika Vaidya. Interestingly, Rituraj was the captain of the team.
In tennis, Rituja Bhosle won gold in mixed doubles along with veteran competitor Rohan Bopanna. India won a medal in roller skating for the first time. Vikram Ingle and Siddhant Kamble were part of the bronze medal winning team in the 3000m relay race.
