Aaron Rodgers’ comments about TV host Jimmy Kimmel draw sharp rebuke
Aaron Rodgers’ latest musings drew some sharp (and potentially litigious?) pushback from late night television host Jimmy Kimmel.
The former Packers quarterback appeared Tuesday as usual on The Pat McAfee Show and dropped an inference that Kimmel would appear on a list of associates to accused sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein.
What exactly did Aaron Rodgers say about Jimmy Kimmel and Jeffrey Epstein?
“There’s a lot of people, including Jimmy Kimmel, really hoping that doesn’t come out,” Rodgers said, speaking from what appeared to be his wine cellar. “I’ll tell you what, if that list comes out, I definitely will be popping some sort of bottle.”
Kimmel was not amused, calling Rodgers an “Aasshole” (extra “a” added intentionally, presumably) before getting quickly serious in his response on X.
“For the record, I’ve not met, flown with, visited, or had any contact whatsoever with Epstein, nor will you find my name on any “list” other than the clearly-phony nonsense that soft-brained wackos like yourself can’t seem to distinguish from reality,” he wrote. “Your reckless words put my family in danger. Keep it up and we will debate the facts further in court.”
When did the feud between Aaron Rodgers and Jimmy Kimmel begin?
Kimmel hasn’t had much patience for Rodgers’ unusual takes in the past.
Kimmel mocked Aaron Rodgers in March shortly after Rodgers appeared on the Pat McAfee Show and opined that a recent bumper crop of UFO sightings could be a distraction to keep people from thinking about more sinister things in the world. Among those sinister things to which he alluded: The Epstein client list.
“All this UFO talk has the tin foil hatters going wild, including wack-Packer Aaron Rodgers who offered this hot take on ‘The Pat McAfee Show,’” Kimmel said at the time on Jimmy Kimmel Live! “Might be time to re-visit that concussion protocol.”
Current Packers player and former Rodgers teammate David Bakhtiari shot back at Kimmel on X, posting “Tell me you’re on the Jeffrey Epstein client list, without telling me you’re on the Jeffrey Epstein client list.”
Rodgers and Kimmel appear to have diametrically opposing views on COVID-19 vaccination, with Rodgers famously advocating for alternative approaches to vaccination and Kimmel outspoken against anti-vaxxers.
Disney serves as the parent company of both ESPN, home to The Pat McAfee Show, and ABC, home to Jimmy Kimmel Live!
Who is Jeffrey Epstein and what is ‘the list?’
Epstein has been accused of sex trafficking and sexual abuse of minors; he hanged himself in a federal detention center in 2019. A list of more than 150 Epstein associations could be unsealed as soon as this week. The documents are part of a settled defamation lawsuit against Epstein’s convicted accomplice Ghislaine Maxwell, by one of their accusers.
A judge ruled in December that the list could be made public.
